Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Science and Therapy is a one year program (two semesters). The basic tenet of the program is to develop skills in Yoga Sciences as well as Therapy in order to serve the people of society.
The curriculum of the course covers fundamentals of Yoga, Hatha Yogic texts, Shrimad Bhagwad Geet, Patanjala Yoga Sutras, human anatomy and physiology, disease management, application of Yoga and Yoga therapy, knowledge of health and diet over a span of two semesters. As an integral part of curriculum, students have to undergo a field training which enables them with hands-on experience and builds confidence in students, so that after the completion of program they can
serve the society as a Yoga professional in the field of health, therapy, education, research and sports effectively.
The Department of Physiotherapy is one of the pioneer institutions offering Yoga education in the state. The Department offers post graduate degree and post graduate diploma programmes in Yoga Science and Therapy. M.Sc. Yoga Science and Therapy is a two postgraduate academic program, spread over a total of four Semesters. The basic tenet of the program is to develop skills in Yoga Sciences as well as Therapy in order to serve the people of society.
The course aims to build physical, mental and spiritual discipline in the students. The curriculum offers a wide range of subjects to bring all round personality development of the students at all levels. It includes ancient Yogic texts such as Hatha Yoga Pradeepika, Gherand Samhita, Essence of Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta, Samkhya Karika, Patanjala Yoga Sutras etc. The syllabi also inculcate teachings of ancient Indian Philosophy such as Darshan, Vedas, Upanishads etc. in order to blend this ancient technique of Yoga into the modern era and present needs course also includes subjects such as anatomy and physiology, research methodology, Yoga therapy etc. A brief knowledge of Ayurveda, naturopathy, acupressure etc. is taught to students to integrate Yoga therapy with other systems of medicine to speed up the process of recovery and to explore the possibilities of promoting Yoga therapy.
The curriculum also focuses on intensive practices of Shatkarma, Asana, Pranayama, Bandha, Mudra, Meditation etc. and other advance techniques. As an integral part of curriculum, students, have to undergo a field training which enables them with hands-on experience and builds confidence in students. In addition, a Dissertation work is also an integral part of M.Sc. Yoga Science and Therapy Program enabling them to pursue research in Yoga and produce qualified professional in the field of Yoga Sciences and Yoga therapy.
The objective of the Course is:
- To impart to the students the knowledge of teachings and philosophy of Yoga tradition.
- Promoting the awareness for positive health and personality development in the student through Yoga.
- Instilling and inculcating the general interest and inquisitive knowledge about Yoga for health, personality development and spiritual evolution.
- To produce manpower to give Yoga training /teaching, Yoga therapy and Yoga research at all levels.
- To produce manpower to give Yoga training and therapy at hospitals.
- To prepare the graduates in Yoga science to study the higher aspects of Yoga education, therapy and research at the post-graduate level.
- To generate manpower to assist in Yoga research projects.
- To encourage the pupil to be a global citizen, serving the human beings at large through the noble profession of Yoga.
- To impart to the students the knowledge of human anatomy and physiology and understanding of pathogenesis of diseases and their management in Yoga therapy.
- To provide the knowledge of various Yoga therapy practices like asana, pranayama meditation and relaxation techniques, counseling and basic dietary concepts with their implication.
- To Train the students to handle a client and administer Yoga therapy under the supervision of a specialized Medical practitioner.
- To train the students in Yoga therapy so that they can integrate the Yoga therapy with different systems of medicine and clinical settings.
- To produce Yoga therapists of high caliber with in-depth understanding of basic sciences and holistic health techniques.
- To enable the students to develop the communication skills and computer skills and applications in Yoga science.
- To introduce Yoga therapy its principles and practices of Yoga to people with various lifestyle disorders.
- To make the people aware of the therapeutic and preventive value of Yoga.
- To bring peace and harmony in the society at large by introducing the Yogic way of life.
- To create therapists of high caliber to make the society free form stress and lifestyle related diseases.
